Week 3 · The Gurus continue · Day 19

Guru Gobind Singh Ji — the 10th Guru

Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth and last of the human Gurus, was a poet, warrior, scholar and father who gave everything for his Sikhs. At Vaisakhi 1699 he created the Khalsa — calling on his Sikhs to live with courage, equality, and selfless service — and he sealed this gift by declaring that after him the Guru Granth Sahib Ji would be the eternal, living Guru. He lost his four sons and faced enormous hardship, yet his spirit never wavered, and he wrote with chardi kala — rising optimism — to the very end.
