, ਇੰਨੇ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ

Once upon a time, a king and queen had a beautiful baby daughter. They were so happy that they held a grand naming feast and invited everyone in the land.

ਸਿਆਣੀਆਂ - ਆਈਆਂ,

To the celebration came the wise fairy-women, each bringing a special gift for the little princess.

" ਦਿੰਦੀ ," ਘੁਮਾਉਂਦੇ । " ਦਿੰਦੀ ," । " ਗਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿੰਦੀ ," - ,

"I give her kindness," said the first, waving her wand. "I give her laughter," said the second. "I give her a voice as sweet as a songbird," said the third. One by one, they gave their lovely gifts.

But suddenly the doors flew open. In swept an angry fairy who had not been invited. "I have a gift too," she snapped. "When the princess turns sixteen, she shall prick her finger and fall into a deep, deep sleep!"

Everyone gasped. But one kind fairy-woman had not yet given her gift. She stepped forward gently. "I cannot undo the spell," she said, "but I can soften it. The princess will not sleep forever. One day, she shall wake again."

The years passed, and the princess grew kind and merry. Then, on her sixteenth birthday, she found an old spinning wheel and pricked her finger on its sharp point. At once she sank into a deep, peaceful sleep.

And the gentle fairy-woman made everyone in the castle sleep too, so the princess would not wake up alone. The cook dozed by the stove. The king nodded on his throne. Even the cat curled up and snored. A hedge of roses grew all around, and the whole castle waited, patient and still.

Many years later, a brave young prince found the sleeping castle. He stepped softly through the rose hedge and into the quiet hall, where the princess lay dreaming.

He took her hand. Slowly, her eyes opened, and she smiled. All across the castle, everyone woke and stretched and yawned. The cook stirred the pot, the king laughed, and the cat purred.

And the whole kingdom celebrated, happy and wide awake at last.
