Once upon a time, a little red hen lived on a farm with a lazy cat, a sleepy dog, and a noisy duck.

One day the little red hen found some grains of wheat. "Who will help me plant this wheat?" she asked.
"ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ," ਬਿੱਲੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ। "ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ," ਕੁੱਤੇ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ। "ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ," ਬੱਤਖ਼ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ।
"Not I," said the cat. "Not I," said the dog. "Not I," said the duck.
"ਫਿਰ ਮੈਂ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਬੀਜਾਂਗੀ," ਛੋਟੀ ਲਾਲ ਮੁਰਗੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ। ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਬੀਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
"Then I will plant it myself," said the little red hen. And she did.

"Not I," said the cat. "Not I," said the dog. "Not I," said the duck.
"ਫਿਰ ਮੈਂ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਕੱਟਾਂਗੀ," ਛੋਟੀ ਲਾਲ ਮੁਰਗੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ। ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
"Then I will cut it myself," said the little red hen. And she did.
"ਇਸ ਕਣਕ ਨੂੰ ਪੀਸ ਕੇ ਆਟਾ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਚੱਕੀ ਤੱਕ ਲਿਜਾਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਦਦ ਕੌਣ ਕਰੇਗਾ?" ਉਸਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ।
"Who will help me take the wheat to the mill to grind it into flour?" she asked.

"ਫਿਰ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਾਂਗੀ," ਛੋਟੀ ਲਾਲ ਮੁਰਗੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ। ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

At last she had soft white flour. "Who will help me bake the bread?" she asked.
"ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ," ਬਿੱਲੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ। "ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ," ਕੁੱਤੇ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ। "ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ," ਬੱਤਖ਼ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ।

Soon a warm, lovely smell filled the farm. "Who will help me eat the bread?" she asked.
"ਮੈਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ!" ਬਿੱਲੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ। "ਮੈਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ!" ਕੁੱਤੇ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ। "ਮੈਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ!" ਬੱਤਖ਼ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ।
"I will!" said the cat. "I will!" said the dog. "I will!" said the duck.
ਛੋਟੀ ਲਾਲ ਮੁਰਗੀ ਮੁਸਕਰਾਈ। "ਜਦੋਂ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਸੀ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਮਦਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਅੱਜ ਮੈਂ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੂਚਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਕਰਾਂਗੀ।"
The little red hen smiled. "When there was work to do, none of you would help. So today I will share with my chicks instead."
