A little Country Mouse lived in a cosy hole in the fields. One day, his cousin, the Town Mouse, came to visit.

The Country Mouse served his best food — fresh grain, seeds, and a few crumbs of bread. "Eat, dear cousin!" he said happily.
ਪਰ ਸ਼ਹਿਰੀ ਚੂਹੇ ਨੇ ਨੱਕ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ। "ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਸਾਦਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਖਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ?" ਉਸਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ। "ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਚੱਲੋ। ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦਿਖਾਵਾਂਗਾ ਕਿ ਚੰਗੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਜੀਣੀ ਹੈ!"
But the Town Mouse turned up his nose. "How can you eat such plain food?" he said. "Come to the town with me. I will show you how to live well!"

So the two mice went to the town. They crept into a grand house where a great feast was spread on the table — cheese, cake, fruit, and sweet treats of every kind.
"ਹੁਣ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਚੰਗਾ ਭੋਜਨ!" ਸ਼ਹਿਰੀ ਚੂਹੇ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ। ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਚੂਹੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਰਹਿ ਗਈਆਂ।
"Now this is good food!" said the Town Mouse. The Country Mouse's eyes grew wide.
ਪਰ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਖਾਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ — ਧੜੰਮ! ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡੀ ਬਿੱਲੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਭੱਜ ਕੇ ਆਈ। ਦੋਵੇਂ ਚੂਹੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਨ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਭੱਜੇ ਅਤੇ ਡਰ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਬਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਲੁਕ ਗਏ।
But just as they began to eat — bang! The door flew open and a big cat came rushing in. The two mice ran for their lives and hid, shaking with fear.
ਜਦੋਂ ਸਭ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਚੂਹੇ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, "ਅਲਵਿਦਾ, ਭਰਾ। ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਵਧੀਆ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਡਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਅਵਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਦੇ ਬੀਜ ਖਾਣਾ ਪਸੰਦ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ।"
When all was quiet, the Country Mouse said, "Goodbye, cousin. Your food is fine, but I would rather eat plain seeds in peace than feast in fear."
