Sinbad was a sailor who loved the wide blue sea. He longed to see far-off lands, so one bright morning he set sail with a crew of cheerful friends.

For many days the ship glided over gentle waves. Then, far away, Sinbad spotted a small green island.

"Land!" the sailors cheered. They rowed ashore, lit a little fire, and danced with joy on the soft ground.

ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਹਿੱਲਣ ਲੱਗ ! ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਘੁੰਮਣ ਗੜਗੜਾਉਣ ਲੱਗ

But the ground began to move! It rolled and rumbled beneath their feet.

" !" ਸਿੰਦਬਾਦ । " ਵ੍ਹੇਲ , ' ਹੋਈ , ' ਦਰੱਖਤ !"

"This is no island!" cried Sinbad. "It is a giant whale, sleeping on the sea, with grass and trees grown upon its back!"

The fire had woken the great whale. It began to dive down into the deep. The sailors raced back to their ship, but poor Sinbad slipped and fell into the water with a splash.

Brave Sinbad did not give up. He spotted a wooden tub floating nearby and grabbed hold of it tightly. He kicked and paddled through the waves, all day and all night.

When the sun rose, Sinbad saw a beautiful shore. He paddled with all his might until at last he reached the sandy beach. He was tired, but safe and sound.

On that shore, Sinbad met kind people who gave him food and a soft place to rest. They were amazed by his story of the whale that wore a green island on its back.

When he reached his own town, his family hugged him tight. Sinbad smiled and said, "What an adventure! But there is no place quite like home."
