Japji Sahib · Stanza 38
Pauri 38
Living a good life is like a goldsmith's workshop — virtues are the tools that mint the Divine Word within us.
Jat paahaaraa dheeraj suni-aar.
Let self-control be your workshop and patience be the goldsmith.
Ahran mat ved hathee-aar.
Let understanding be the anvil and spiritual knowledge be the tools.
Bha-o khalaa agan tap taa-o.
Let the awe of God be the bellows and dedicated effort be the fire's heat.
Bhaandaa bhaa-o amrit tit dhaal.
Let love be the pot, and in it pour the sweet nectar of God's Name.
Gharee-ai sabad sachee taksaal.
In this true mint, the Divine Word is shaped and formed.
Jin ka-o nadar karam tin kaar.
This is the work of those who receive God's glance of grace.
Naanak nadree nadar nihaal. ॥38॥
Says Nanak: by God's gracious glance, they are blessed and filled with joy. ॥38॥
