ਙ (Nganga) is the tenth letter of the Gurmukhi alphabet and the rarest member of the kavarg row. It makes a nasal “ng” sound and almost never appears at the beginning of a word — its main job is to soften other consonants in the middle or end of words.

How to teach a 4-year-old

Have your child say the end of the word “sing” — the ng sound is what ਙ stands for. Don’t worry about example words; ਙ is more of a “helper” letter that older students learn to spot inside other words. The job for now is just to recognize its shape.
